Wildlife Protection and anti-poachingĀ

Thula Thula Youtube Video PopupThula Thula has a dedicated Wildlife Protection and Anti Poaching Unit working 24/7 for safety of our precious wildlife.

Due to the ongoing war against poaching Thula Thula is constantly upgrading the Anti-Poaching infrastructure, besides getting information from the national Anti-Poaching Intelligence, we use bush trap cameras that send images on real time through to our security team as early warning signs, we have recently added a permanent K9 unit as part of the patrolling team.

Ashley is a 2-year-old German Sheppard, born from a line of South African Police Force K9’s. He was trained by an ex-member of the South African Police force with 25 years’ experience.

These armed guardians of our wildlife, work day and night doing fence patrols, snare sweeping across the reserve and they are deployed for ambushes in order to prevent wildlife crime. Added to this special unit, we also have the WILDLIFE PROTECTION AND RHINO MONITORING TEAM dedicated to guarding our rhinos, Thabo and Ntombi, Mona and Sissi, and our new rhino male Rambo.

The protection, rehabilitation and survival of our wildlife is an absolute priority at Thula Thula.

THANK YOU to our donors for your amazing help and contributions, as we would not be able to do it without you.

Conservation fund for the care,
protection & survival of our endangered wildlife

Rhinos

The SOUTH AFRICAN CONSERVATION FUND is the Thula Thula registered Non-Profit Organisation, founded by FranƧoise Malby-Anthony, Managing Director of Thula Thula Private Game Reserve and widow of well-known conservationist, explorer and international bestselling author Lawrence Anthony.

In March 2012, Thabo, who was three years old at the time, was shot and wounded by ruthless poachers who entered the Thula Thula Private Game Reserve to poach our rhino for their horns.

This resulted in the establishment of the Thula Thula Rhino Fund in 2012, which raised funds for the protection and preservation of the rhino population within the Thula Thula Private Game Reserve. Funding goes towards supplying much-needed equipment for counter-poaching activities, for crucial conservation initiatives and to ensure the on-going protection and survival of our rhinos, but also all our endangered species.

The Thula Thula rhino fund was incorporated in 2016 within the SACF which now groups all our conservation projects at Thula Thula.
