Siyakwamukela! Welcome!

The Thula Thula Volunteers Academy

Do you like the bush? Are you a fan of conservation? Would you like to learn more about nature? And do you want to “get your hands dirty” and make the difference? Is it your aim to give something back to conservation? Then we welcome you to the Thula Thula Volunteers Academy! All proceeds from the Volunteers Academy go to the non-profit South African Conservation Fund to fund Thula Thula’s crucial conservation programmes including habitat expansion, anti-poaching and much else.

The home of the Elephant Whisperer and An Elephant in My Kitchen, and paradise to the most unique elephant family, two hand-raised orphaned rhinos (Thabo and Ntombi as well as Mona and Sissi), an abundance of antelope, giraffe, hyena, a hippo family, many other animals and a vast array of birds. Yet it is a paradise under threat.

Poachers have declared war on the African wildlife, be it for the “pot” or to harm our rhino to murder them for their horns and superstitions. Invasive plants and species also need to be cleared as they threaten indigenous plants.

And our local communities need to be educated about the importance of conservation, and at times simply need a hand from us in their day to day lives.

At the Thula Thula Volunteer Academy you slip into the role of an Assistant Conservation Manager and help our dedicated and passionate rangers with every role in African conservation and nature preservation.

We welcome you to make the difference and give back to Africa!

And yes… our Volunteers Camp probably offers one of the best views in Africa where you can share your experiences with fellow Volunteers, the locals who join the Academy and our magnificent rangers!
