The 4500 ha private game reserve Thula Thula is situated only 45 minutes from Richards Bay harbour and airport, and less than 2 hours drive from Durban. There is a 700m airstrip on the property.

Take the N2 out of Johannesburg towards Mpumalanga. Drive past Ermelo and Piet Ritief; take a turnoff to the R33 towards Paulpietersburg/Vryheid. At Vryheid, take the R34 to Babanango/Melmoth. Drive past Melmoth, when you get to Nkwalini, turn left to Empangeni (R34), and follow directions as above.
FROM DURBAN (2 Hours) – Take the N2 (Stanger) north-bound to Empangeni. Have money ready for toll fees (± R100.00). At the Empangeni turn off take the R34 to Empangeni. Drive through Empangeni, following the direction of Nkwalini / Melmoth, please drive about 8 km’s pass Empangeni milling, ignore the first sign post of Thula Thula in Heatonville (bad dirt road), continue as though going to Melmoth on the R34 for 14 km’s, you will see the second sign post of Thula Thula – turn right and continue driving for about 10 km’s –Caution- windy road (watch out for potholes and animals), Reach a T junction with a Thula Thula sign post – turn right continue for about 4km’s on tar until you reach another T junction, turn right & drive for about 2 km sign post to Thula Thula – turn left and drive 2 km’s more on tar, you will pass the police station (left side), market place (right side), you will see the next Thula Thula sign post – turn left onto a dirt road (pass clinic, fire station) drive 2 km’s (cautiously) to the Thula Thula Main Gate.
Drive back to the N3; follow the N3 towards Durban, past Howick/Pietermaritzburg. Drive past the Pavilion Shopping Complex. Take the N2 North and follow directions as Durban above.
