GREETINGS FROM OUR LEGENDARY NANA
and REMEMBERING FRANKIE, OUR MATRIARCH.
Each year, for the past 4 years, Nana and the herd have come to visit us at the main house for Christmas and New Year. An emotional moment, as it all started four years ago, when Nana and the herd came to show us that Frankie was not part of the procession as she had removed herself from the herd due to her illness, and warning us of her imminent death.
Their procession every year serves to remind us of the great FRANKIE, our past Matriarch, who left us in January 2021, at the age of 46. A tragic loss for the herd, and for all of us at Thula Thula
FRANKIE, a Matriarch we shall never forget.
GPS COLLARING OF AYANA, OUR FEMALE CHEETAH
Once Ayana and the two brothers Amani and Asante are released into the wildlife reserve, we shall be able to monitor them 24/7. For their protection.
With only 1300 cheetahs left in the wild in South Africa, they are listed in the “Vulnerable” category and are at high risk of extinction, so the fight for their survival is a priority. Monitoring them is important to learn about their social structures and understand how to better conserve cheetahs in protected areas.
