Elegance, comfort and style in the African bush.

Our spacious “Bedouin style” family tent can accommodate 2 adults and two children.
The bathroom is open plan and separated from the sleeping area by a movable wooden screen.
All our tents are equipped with fans and air coolers for the hot summer day.
Electric blankets for the cooler winter days offer the most comfortable sleeping experience.
Minimum 3 guests in the family tents.

What to bring

Walking shoes, sun hat, sunglasses, sun block, cameras, binoculars, light clothing and swimming costumes in summer and in winter warm clothing and jackets.

Thula Thula is in a malaria free area

Central living area with bar, dining room, lounges, airconditioned lounge with TV/DSTV, outside thatched bar, boma, swimming pool.

A morning and an afternoon game drive.

Game drives are conducted on the Thula Thula private game reserve by our professional rangers. You can see elephant, rhino, buffalo, leopard, hippo, giraffe, crocodile, hyena, wildebeest, kudu, nyala, zebra and many more, including exceptional birdlife.

Optional extras:

Game drives in Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, whale watching (June to October), Saint Lucia cruises, therapeutic spa massages, or picnic champagne lunch in the bush.

Children of any age are welcome.

Children 4 to 11 years old pay 50% of adult rate if sharing with parents, or 2 adults in the family tent, or in a standard luxury tent.

Children under 4 years old are not permitted on game drives. Baby sitting can be arranged.

Summer (September – March).

Hot days, warm nights.
Temperatures 25 – 35 degrees centigrade.

Winter (April – August).

Dry season: generally warm days, cool nights.
Temperatures 10 – 25 degrees centigrade.


Included for our guests is a pair of slippers, gown and hairdryer.

There is an air conditioned lounge with TV-DSTV, and a game room for children. This lounge is also an art gallery for paintings from local artists who donated their artwork to the Thula Thula Rhino Fund


A buffet lunch is served around the outside thatched bar or by the swimming pool.

Dine under the stars in the boma for a traditional South African braai (barbecue) or a potjie (meat stew with vegetables cooked on the fire in a cast iron pot) where you will share stories of the day’s game viewing or the legends of the bush with your hosts, our dedicated rangers.
